Shaz Akram is the visionary behind HerPivot, a platform dedicated to storytelling tailored for women in mid to executive-level positions. With a background as the former executive director of the Women's Foreign Policy Group, a nonprofit organization championing women’s leadership in international affairs, Shaz recognized a crucial need for mentorship. While young professionals found ample support and encouragement in DC events, mid to senior-level women often grappled with challenges like imposter syndrome, ageism, and limited mentorship opportunities.
Drawing from her own career shifts and currently pursuing a Fulbright Specialist grant, encompassing a six-week Faculty Development Course in a women’s university, Shaz identified the necessity for a fresh approach to mentorship and executive coaching. She envisioned a platform that offered genuine, relatable stories to empower women.
Prior to her tenure at the Women's Foreign Policy Group, Shaz served as Deputy Director at the Fulbright Association, establishing herself as a leader in international education and academic exchanges. Her expertise spans US higher education, alumni relations, and international affairs. Shaz's proficiency in program development, financial planning, and fundraising is evident from her tenure at institutions like Mississippi State University, where she was renowned for her contributions to internationalization efforts.
Beyond her professional roles, Shaz plays pivotal roles in various organizations, including chairing NAFSA's Embassy Dialogue Committee Member Interest Group and serving on the Board of Governors and Trustees of DACOR Bacon House Foundation. She co-chairs the Programming Committee and the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion task force, and also contributes to the Board of the Public Diplomacy Council of America.
Now, Shaz aims to empower other women through an innovative approach of interviewing and storytelling, fostering a community of support and inspiration for women navigating their careers.
